Quality is hornier than avarice It was in the year 1965 that Berth Milton Sr., a very shrewd Swedish businessman, breathed life into what was to become the Private Media Group, Inc. in the Swedish capital of Stockholm. Private had begun to make a name for itself from the very beginning, and in 1992, Private Media entered the hardcore movie business in great style… and then expanded into new media and Pay-TV (with four of its own channels), and even its own lingerie and sex-toy product lines. In 1999, Private became the very first adult entertainment company to be traded on the American NASDAQ stock market. As Private started to release its own films, the company concentrated almost exclusively in offering the fans gonzo-style material. As more and more home-made amateur movies began to enter the market at the turn of the millennium, many film producers cranked up their output, resulting in a massive range of cheaply made porn films to appease the masses. This trend was something that Private wanted no part in, and the company came to the decision that quality and not quantity is what counts, and it increased its budgets for own productions massively. 100,000 US dollars is an average budget for a Private film, and the milestone movie “Millionaire” from 2004 is indeed one of the most expensive porn films ever made, running in with cost of around 1.9 million dollars. No expenses are sparred when it comes to direction or cast either. Alongside top directors like Pierre Woodman (France’s porn equivalent of Steven Spielberg), the sexy top stars including Monica Sweetheart, Rita Faltoyano, Sarah Young, Silvia Saint, Laura Angel and Claudia Ferrari all receive rather nice salaries and contacts, and also employee benefits such as health insurance… something that is rather rare in the hardcore industry. Amongst the specialties that Private offer are the Hollywood-style pornographic parody productions that are as entertaining as they are horny. An absolute highlight is the Star Wars adaption ‘Porn Wars’, which was even honoured with an AVN Award for Special Effects.
